In June, we recognize Aphasia Awareness Month. Most often a result of a stroke, aphasia impairs the ability to speak and understand others. It can also occur after a brain tumor, head injury, or a neurological disorder. In most cases those with aphasia also have challenges reading and writing. Aphasia is in no way reflective of someone’s intelligence.
