Day encourages people to check risk for diabetes

Millions of people worldwide live with diabetes or know someone who is living with the disease.

Whether it’s Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, the American Diabetes Association says diabetes is not yet a curable disease. However, it is a disease that is treatable.

The American Diabetes Association Alert Day takes place annually the last Tuesday of March. This year, it will take place March 26.

It’s a day when the association encourages people to take the Type 2 diabetes risk test. One in three Americans is at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, according to the association.

People can also partake in activities that are workplace-friendly. The activities aim to teach people about reversing the risk for diabetes.

Some ways of lowering your risk including managing your blood pressure, avoiding unhealthy cholesterol levels and maintaining a healthy weight.
