World Cancer Day aims to raise awareness and education about cancer.
The day is also intended to press governments and people around the world to take action against the disease, according to the Union for International Cancer Control.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, according to the World Health Organization. About one in six deaths is due to cancer globally.
Hundreds of events and activities are expected to take place around the world. Some of the topics being discussed include cancer-related fatigue and achieving global access to treatment.
“I Am and I Will” is the theme for this year’s World Cancer Day.
