The goal of National Infertility Awareness Week is to raise awareness on infertility and allow struggling couples the chance for support from their friends and family without feeling ashamed.
Infertility affects 1 in every 8 people so it is probable that everyone knows at least one person that has struggled with the condition. Despite the media focusing mainly on female infertility and stress as the culprit, it can occur in both men and women and can be affected by age, weight, genetic predisposition, previous illness, alcohol use, tobacco use and more.
By educating others about infertility, the hope is that couples will feel more open about discussing their condition and their need for support during a difficult time.
